Adriaen Willaert Interactive Walk

Discover Adriaen Willaert

The Adriaen Willaert interactive walk is available in Dutch, French, German and English.

Did you know the stereo effect was invented in Roeselare – as early as the 16th century? Adriaen Willaert, born around 1490 in Rumbeke near Roeselare, was one of the leading composers of the Renaissance.

He became one of the best-paid musicians of his time and worked as chapel master at San Marco in Venice. How did this polyphonist from West Flanders rise to such fame? And how did he manage to create stereo sound back in his day?
